Joan Hardman

Joan Hardman, 79, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the NorthCare Hospice Center in North Kansas City, MO, on Tuesday, December 14, 2010. She had been a resident there for a little over two weeks.
Donna Joan (Mills) Hardman was born in Putnam County, MO, on June 28, 1931, the daughter of Joseph and Thelma May (Ackley) Mills, who preceded her in death. She attended rural schools in Putnam County. On October 26, 1958 she married John Hardman in Pollock, MO, and he preceded her in death on April 22, 2009.
Joan worked as a cook and waitress in restaurants in the area, particularly at Don’s Hickory House and the Steer-In Café both in Unionville. She also sold Avon for a while. Joan had a friendly and outgoing personality and liked to visit with friends and neighbors. Home was the center of life for Joan and she was always available for the grandkids. She belonged to the Lemon’s American Legion Auxiliary.
Joan is survived by a son, William Hardman, and two daughters, Debbie Moss and husband Roger and Diane Hendee, all of Unionville, MO. Her four grandchildren are Shawna Lewis and husband Doug, Chris Hendee, Jesse Hendee, and Skyler Hendee. Great grandchildren are Mackenzie, Alexis, and Bailey Lewis. A brother and sister-in-law, Rex and Fern Michael, also survive.
Funeral services for Joan Hardman will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 18, 2010. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Lemons Cemetery.
