Alan Clark

Alan David Clark, 54 of Kirksville passed away Saturday (October 7, 2017) at Northeast Regional Medical Center surrounded by family.

The son of David and Jeanne (Jackson) Clark, he was born June 14, 1963 in Kirksville, MO. On May 18, 1985 in Kirksville, MO he was united in marriage to Barbara Selby.

Alan is survived by his wife, Barb; one son, Christopher Clark and wife Allicia of Greentop, MO; one daughter, Chelsea Clark of Kirksville; his parents David and Jeanne Clark of Brashear, MO; one brother, Danny Clark of Kansas City, MO; one sister, Tammy Hawkins and husband John of Daytona Beach, FL; uncle and aunt, Kenny and Joanne Jackson and their children, Eric of Kirksville and Stephanie of Maryland Heights, MO, uncle, Jack Hannigan and family; nieces, Danielle Clark, Sophie Hawkins, Meghan and Kara Hardman, Lacy (Matt) Oesch and Jenny (Daniel) Newton; nephews, Dillon and Dalton Clark; his mother-in-law, Berniece Selby of Brashear, MO, two sisters-in-law, Jackie (Kelley) Church of Brashear, MO and Debbie (Karl) Hardman of Columbia, MO; and his great-niece and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wallace and Dortha Jackson, Roy and Mae Clark; father-in-law, Roger Selby; and one aunt, Joanne Clark Hannigan.

Alan grew up on the family farm in Sperry, and loved spending time caring for the sheep and cattle. His father, brother, and he, worked the ag service Clark and Sons. Alan attended and graduated from Brashear High School in 1981. During high school he was actively involved in many activities including: basketball, track, baseball, and 4-H. He graduated from Truman State University with Ag Science and Ag Business degrees. Shortly after graduating college, he and Barb were married. During the early years of their marriage, Alan worked for Jackson Farms, City of Kirksville and Vitafirm until he became an agent for Missouri Farm Bureau Insurance Agency in 1998.

During Alan’s time with Farm Bureau he excelled in his sales ability. He was awarded the Rookie of the Year his first year with the company. Throughout his tenure Alan was also recognized for many awards including the President’s All-American and Court of Excellence. Alan’s drive for achievement at work often times influenced all those around him.

A big part of Alan’s life was youth sports. He coached for both his son and his daughter’s sports teams in their childhood. He loved all of his players, and to this day many of them still refer to him as ‘Coach’. Again, his influence on the kids was contagious. They all wanted to get better, and be better, because of Alan. He served on the Adair County Extension Board and the NEMO Fair Board where he ran the sheep show for many years. He was a member of the Kirksville Booster Club where he had served as President; Kirksville Country Club, First United Methodist Church and the Bethel Community Church.

His story telling and contagious laugh would bring joy to everyone in his life. Nothing made Alan happier than spending time with his family, being on the golf course, and playing with his corgi pup, Kirby.

Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday (October 11, 2017) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday (October 12, 2017) at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Scott Beard officiating. Entombment will be in Park View Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Pallbearers will be Jim Berrey, Kelly Bevill, Dave Bjork, Monte Fisher, Todd Hill, Chuck Lewellen, Don Riley, Rudy Riley, Eric Wheeler, and John Wichmann. Honorary bearers will be Rick Buck, Scott Clark, Howard Hickman, Gene Montgomery, Jeff Nelson, Robert Sparks, and Doug Thomas.
