Anna Belle Smith, 83, passed away at Benton Assisted Living Center in Blue Springs, MO, on Sunday, December 10, 2017. She had been fighting cancer for a year and a half.
Anna Belle was born in Putnam County, MO, on July 20, 1934, the daughter of Raymond and Reva (Robb) Wright. She was the step-daughter of Reg McHenry. She was blessed with two mothers, Mommie and Reva, and lots of loving aunts and uncles. Anna Belle was married to Ray McClaskey until his untimely death while serving in the military. She married LaVan O. Smith in Unionville on June 2, 1954, and he preceded her in death on January 7, 2015.
Anna Belle and LaVan spent their entire married life in Unionville. Anna Belle was a homemaker and she also worked for the Rexall Drug Store for 30 years. She worked with Livinia Perkins for 20 of those years and they were close friends. They later had a house cleaning business together and worked in a nursery, among other business ventures.
Anna Belle’s family was one of the top priorities in her life along with her faith and her church. She was a faithful member of the Frist Christian Church in Unionville. Anna Belle also loved her community and had many close friends who will dearly miss her. She had a sweet disposition and always seem to put others ahead of herself.
Anna Belle is survived by her two sons: Terry Smith (fiancé Nancy Richards) of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Garry (Julie) Smith of Blue Springs, MO. Her five grandchildren are Chad (Jennifer) Smith, Jaclyn Maloney, Emily (Kyle) Martin, Molly Smith, and Bradley Smith. Nine great grandchildren also survive as well as two brothers, Reggie McHenry and Doris (Teresa) McHenry of Kansas City, KS; and three sisters, Regina (Gene) Webber) of Keytesville, MO, Alice (Homer) Jarvis of Lancaster, MO, and Deloris (Gary) Jarman of Unionville, MO. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Anna Belle’s parents preceded her in death as well as her husband.
Funeral services for Anna Belle Smith will be at the First Christian Church in Unionville, MO, at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 14, 2017, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Unionville Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Unionville First Christian Church and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO, 63565.
