Anna Lou Wheeler passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023, in Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
The daughter of Junior E. and Ruth (Bergman) Snowbarger, she was born February 9, 1937, in rural Queen City. She attended Kline Rural School for eight years and the Queen City High School for four years, graduating with the class of 1955.
On June 4, 1955, Anna Lou was united in marriage to Don Wheeler, having just celebrated sixty-eight years together. They moved to Joliet, Illinois, in November 1955. Don joined the military in December 1956, and during this time they lived in various places. After Don's discharge from the military they returned to Joliet, Illinois until 1967. They then moved back to Queen City where she resided until her passing.
Anna Lou was a housewife and worked for Wheelers Greenhouse while the children were in school. She then worked for the food service for twenty years, at what is now Truman State University, retiring in 2004. After retiring she enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with family.
Anna Lou is survived by her husband Don, two sons, Franklin Wheeler and Charles Wheeler and wife Tammy, one daughter, Nancy Wood and husband Terry. She is also survived by grandchildren,
Wesley (Rachael) Wheeler, Bradley (Camrion) Wheeler, Christy (Sheldon) Scadden, Kim Wood, Rachel Fowler and David Wohler, Jordon (Shea) Wheeler, Nathanial Wheeler and fiancée Kendall Ingersoll, nine great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Junior and Ruth Snowbarger, three brothers, Kenneth as an infant, Warren, and Max Snowbarger and daughter-in-law, Barbara Wheeler.
Anna Lou was a long-time member of the Queen City Christian Church where she played the piano and taught Sunday School. She was active in 4-H with her children.
Funeral Service will be held at 11.:00 a m Monday (July 31, 2023) at the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Christman officiating. Burial will be in the Queen City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jordon Wheeler, Nathanial Wheeler, Wesley Wheeler, Bradley Wheeler, Rachel Fowler, and Sheldon Scadden. Honorary Bearers will be Christy Scadden, Kim Wood, and Wendel Gehrke.
Visitation will be Sunday (July 30, 2023) from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the Dooley Funeral Home, Queen City, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Queen City Cemetery.
