Arlen Mcguire

Arlen R. McGuire, 84 of Kirksville passed away Sunday (August 26, 2018) at Kirksville Manor Care.

The daughter of Earl H. and Myra Hammond (Rose) Kisler, she was born January 15, 1934 in Havana, IL She was raised by “mom” Dorothy Kisler. On June 29, 1957 in DeSoto, MO she was united in marriage to Dr. Kenneth McGuire.

Arlen is survived by her husband, Kenneth; two daughters, Lori McGuire-Jones and husband Matt of Atlanta, MO and Kelly Stern of Kirksville; six grandchildren, Anthony Allen, Dakota Flowers, Shawn Stinson, Casey Allen, Bryce Jones and Darla Jones; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Ronald Hammond and wife June of Canton, IL; one sister-in-law, Gladys McGuire of Gladstone, MO, a very special and best friend, Jo Newman; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Dick and George Hammond.

Arlen grew up in DeSoto, MO where she graduated high school in 1952. She received her degree in Elementry Education from Washington University. She taught 3 rd grade in DeSoto, Columbia, and Novinger before staying home to be a full-time mother.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Chapter I.G. P.E.O.. She loved to play bridge.

Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Thursday (August 30. 2018) at First United Methodist Church with a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Scott Beard officiating. Entombment will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO.

Memorials are suggested to the Adair County Humane Society.
