Arlene Louann Novinger

November 13, 1946 — October 12, 2023

Arlene Louann (Brown) Novinger was called to her heavenly home on October 12, 2023 at St. Luke’s North Hospital in Kansas City at the age of 76.

She was born on November 13, 1946 in Lynch, Nebraska, daughter of Henry and Myrtle Brown. In 1960, the family moved to Missouri.  As a resident of northeast Missouri, Louann graduated from Brashear High School in 1965.  She learned at an early age to play the piano and accompanied large family gatherings to sing songs and hymns.  Louann served as an organist at Faith Lutheran Church in Kirksville when her children were young.  Barry and Kim fondly recall standing on either side of her at the organ as she played the remaining songs after the service.  Louann continued as a member of Faith Lutheran Church throughout her life.

On August 28, 1965 she was united in marriage to Terry Novinger, the love of her life, who preceded her in death in 2017.  From this union her children, Barry and Kim, were born.

Louann served for 30 years as a paraprofessional at the Kirksville Middle School. She worked individually with students who had special needs, dedicating herself to their success.  Her most rewarding role was being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She really looked forward to family get-togethers, always wanting to fix her grandchildrens’ favorite meals.  She treasured the time she was able to spend with them in the summer.  She made some great memories during family trips as well as all the fun times spent camping and boating.  Louann loved to garden and enjoyed watching the squirrels and birds in the yard.  She especially loved hummingbirds.

Louann had a very giving heart, providing care for her mother-in-law and Terry in their final years.  She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Myrtle and Henry, and husband Terry.

Survivors include two children; Barry Novinger and Kim Novinger, six grandchildren; Zechariah and wife Clare, Joshua and wife Hana, Angelica, Rebekah, Josiah and Sarah Novinger and four great grandchildren; one brother, Richard Brown and wife Jean, and sister, Linda Hardwick and husband Bill, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home on Saturday, October 21, from 12:00-2:00 p.m.. The funeral service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church at 3:00 p.m., immediately followed by the graveside service at Park View Memorial Gardens.
