Barbara Clark Higgins, 82, of Kirksville passed away April 6, 2018 in Columbia, Missouri surrounded by her family at her side.
Barbara was born in Kirksville to Wesley and Roma Ratliff Clark on April 15, 1935. She went to high school at Kirksville Senior High School and graduated in 1953. Barbara married James (Jim) Higgins on June 12, 1953.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, son, Chris Higgins and daughter, Bernadette Higgins.
She is survived by her husband, Jim, children, Dr. Pat Higgins, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Debbie Vlasz, Streamwood, Illinois, Jim and wife Brenda Higgins, Kirksville, Missouri, Janet and husband Joe Pattermann, Kirksville, Missouri, Danny and wife Renee Higgins, Burnsville, Minnesota, Shelly and husband Galen Christopher, Fleming, Colorado, Mike Higgins, Nashville, Tennessee, Jennie and husband Barry Dice, Nashville, Tennessee, sister Janet Buckman and husband Bernie, Lake St. Louis, Missouri, brother-in-law, Bob Higgins and wife Kathy, Ottumwa, Iowa and sister-in-law Suzanne Higgins, Kirksville, Missouri. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She spent most of her life raising her children and partnering with her husband in managing apartment rentals. She also volunteered her time at KOH Osteopathic Hospital in the neonatal unit and was a dedicated volunteer for elections as a Democratic representative. Barbara loved to dance, especially the jitterbug with her partner, Jim like no other. She also loved to be around her kids, grandkids and great grandkids.
Visitation will be held at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Kirksville on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
Funeral mass will be held at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church on April 11, 2018 at 10:30 am with Monsignor David Cox of Mary Immaculate Church officiating. Burial will follow at Mary Immaculate Catholic Cemetery, 616 South Jamison.
