She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Eugene Swisher, one daughter, Betty Jean Swisher; two grandchildren, Brandon L. and Heather Swisher; one brother, Dale Lawson, and one sister, Marilyn Potts.
Betty spent her entire life in Adair County, MO, attending school in a one-room schoolhouse near Shibley's Point. She was a member of the Novinger Baptist Church, NEMO Radio Amateur Club with call sign K0TSY, and Thousand Hills Campers and Hikers, and served as President of the Novinger School Board of Education.
Betty was a very active member of many genealogical organizations including First Families of Tennessee, the National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, Continental Society Daughters of Indian Wars, Associated Daughters of Early American Witches, National Society of United States Daughters of 1812, Descendant of Colonial Tavern keepers, National Society Sons & Daughters of the Pilgrims, National Society of the Magna Charta Dames, The Plantagenet Society to name a few. She was especially proud of her membership in The National Huguenot Society of America (Missouri State President) and National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. She became a member of Ann Haynes Chapter DAR on October 15, 1976. She was a very active member on both the chapter and state level and held many positions with the organization.
Betty was responsible for bringing many members into DAR and made several trips to Washington D.C. to perform research as a State Chairman Volunteer Genealogist. She proved, for herself, direct lineage to 18 Patriots of the Revolutionary War - more than any other Ann Haynes Chapter member has ever proved. What a wonderful example she was of service to her community and to her country. She held the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution's motto of "God, Home and Country" dear to her heart, and she upheld the Preamble to the Constitution of the United States of America and the American's Creed.
