Beverly Sue Peel

June 25, 1948 — June 27, 2018

Beverly Sue Peel, formerly of Unionville, Missouri, went home to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, in La Plata, Missouri, after an epic struggle against illness. Beverly was most recently a resident at the La Plata Nursing Home, and it was there that she left this world, with her family at her side.

Beverly was born in Unionville, Missouri, on June 25, 1948, to Jay Lee and Mary Ethel Kinkade, of rural Lemons, Missouri. She was raised on the farm, working hayfields and with livestock, particularly fond of her horse, Bobbi Sox, and riding in general. She was an accomplished and natural rider, and enjoyed working with any animal. Beverly attended and graduated the schools at Unionville, Missouri.

Beverly married George Earl Peel, in June, 1967; to this union, two children were born: Gregg Allen in 1968, and Jason Earl, in 1972. Beverly spent the greater part of her life in Putnam County, Missouri, especially at the family home on the hills south of Omaha, Missouri, overlooking the Shoal Creek bottoms and Rattlesnake Ridge; she would often remark that those years were the happiest of her life. Until her chronic illnesses would later make it impossible, Beverly loved the outdoors, especially gardening, walking, and fishing with the family. Beverly was blessed with many skills, to include cooking wild game, sewing, writing, painting/drawing, and just about any artistic endeavor she put her mind to. She was no stranger to a tractor, a chainsaw, or a rifle. She was an accomplished shooter, enjoying informal target shooting at home, and hunting when she was younger. Woe to any snake she found in the yard, as her shotgun would soon be pressed into service!

More than anything else, Beverly enjoyed spending time with family, especially her sons and grandchildren; she could and did spend marathon sessions visiting, laughing, and playing cards. She loved being a mother and a grandmother, and she was an expert at it. Besides her grandchildren that she could not get enough of, she had a special love for her daughters-in-law, Stephanie and Tasha, and treated them as the daughters she had always wanted. In spite of her struggles, she put others first; she cared about the community, being as involved as she could, and she was not aware of any strangers. She would befriend anyone that would have it, and do anything for them that was in her power to do. Witness to this fact are the scores of people that consider her as friend and some as extended family.

Most importantly of all, Beverly was a God-fearing woman, with a great and abiding love of The Lord; her greatest legacy to her sons and family was this example of faithfulness through hardship. In spite of great suffering, she managed to smile until the end, confident of her Savior’s promises, and made whole by it. She enjoyed studying scripture and was known to all as a great prayer-warrior. A Bible was never built that she couldn’t wear out (by reading it, not carrying it.)

Beverly is survived by her sons; Gregg (and Tasha) of Greentop, Missouri; Jason (and Stephanie) of Allen, Texas; her beloved grandchildren: Brandon, McKenzie, Autumn, and Cameron; her sister, Peggy Smiley, of Galt, Missouri; a niece, numerous cousins, and former in-laws that she was very fond of. She was preceded in death by her former husband and lifelong friend, George Peel; her parents, Jay Lee and Mary Ethel Kinkade; and many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, In-Laws, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Playle-Jones Funeral Home, in Unionville, Missouri, on Saturday, July 7th, 2018, at 11:00 AM. Her remains will be committed to the Rose Cemetery, south of Graysville, Missouri, in Eastern Putnam County. Interment at the cemetery will be private.

The family would like to acknowledge the staff of the La Plata Nursing Home, in La Plata, Missouri, with our unending gratitude, for the respect and love she was treated with while in their care.
