Bob Lane, 84, of Unionville, MO, passed away in his home surrounded by kids and family on Saturday, October 9, 2021, after a brief battle with cancer.
Bobbie Lee Lane was born in Mercer, MO, on February 19, 1937, the son of Ned & Jessie Fern (Ragan) Lane. He graduated from Mercer High School in 1955. Bob was united in marriage to Judy Rollins at the Stringtown Christian Church on December 24, 1976.
Bob was enlisted in the Army in 1960-1962, as a Corporal trained in Engineering & stationed at Fort McNair in Washington DC. While in the Army he was assigned as security for JFK during an event in Washington, D.C. Bob worked for several years at Alcoa Aluminum before moving to Unionville, MO to work for his brother Jim & sister-in-law, Lena, at Lane Implement where he repaired and refurbished tractors. He then went to Missouri Mining as a diesel mechanic. He became the Manager for Lake Thunderhead from 1980-1993. During that time, he made a lot of lifetime friends at Lake Thunderhead. After leaving the lake he worked for his friend, Mike O’Reilly, during the development of Black Bird Creek Cattle Co. located on the west side of Lake Thunderhead. Before retiring he worked at Premium Standard Farms.
Bob’s greatest love was his family. He was proud of his kids and grandkids, who he loved spending time with. Bob came from a large family and spent a lot of time with his siblings, nieces, and nephews that he loved dearly. In his younger days, he and his brother, Joe, had four race cars and spent a lot of time together racing them in the Midwest. Bob and Judy spent most of their time camping, golfing, fishing, and boating at the lake with their kids. He loved hunting deer, turkey and ducks with his close friends and kids on the west side of Lake Thunderhead. Bob’s springs and summers were busy gardening. He always had a big garden, where his wife and daughters would can & process all of his produce. Bob was a handy man. He was an excellent carpenter and mechanic. If it was broke, he could fix it. He always had a funny story and was known to be ornery.
Bob was baptized at the Hartford Baptist Church in Hartford on February 23, 2020.
Bob is survived by his four children: Tammy (Lewis) Head, Timmy Bunnell, and Bobbie (Kevin) Lair all of Unionville, and Kerrie (Aaron) Rose of Columbia, MO. His grandchildren: Amanda (Nathan) Pipes, Kaylynn Head, Kaleb Head, Bryce Bunnell, Chanse Lair, Harrison Rose, Henry Rose and Great Grandson Creed Pipes. Bob’s surviving siblings are Ann Young, Mary Lou Arnold, Fran (Harley) Wahl, and Joe (Linda) Lane. He also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Lane. He was also preceded in death by his father and mother, Ned & Fern Lane, brothers: Herb Lane, Harold Lane, Bill Lane, Jim Lane, and Frank Lane, sisters: Katherine (Lane) Berger, Janet (Lane) Elsey, and June (Lane) Shockey. He also preceded in death by sister-in-law, Cleo Lane and Lena Lane, brothers-in-law: Bob Young, Clarence Howard, Harold Elsey, and Bob Arnold. He is also proceeded in death by nephew Jerome “Lucky” Lane, Allen Berger, Paul Berger and niece Jean (Elsey) Dibble.
Funeral services for Bob will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 15, 2021 at the Playle & Collins Funeral Home. Visitation will be the night before from 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Unionville Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Lemons Legion Hall and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27 th St., Unionville, MO, 63565.
