Calvin Dale Davis

Calvin Davis, 62, of Shelbyville, MO, passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 10, 2018.

Calvin Dale Davis was born in Kirksville, MO, on June 11, 1955, the son of Fred and Dorothy (Bradshaw) Davis. Calvin grew up in Unionville, MO, and graduated from Unionville High School in 1973. Calvin accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized into the First Baptist Church of Unionville in 1967.

Soon after high school Calvin began a lifelong career as truck driver, first driving for his uncle Keith Bradshaw and then as owner-operator after Keith passed away. He owned CD Davis Trucking and leased his truck with OX Overnite Express and ATS. He lived in Shelby County most of his adult life and was well-liked by everyone who knew him. Calvin was outgoing and friendly and never met a stranger. He was a pleasant fellow and fun to be around. Calvin liked to care for his house and enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson, taking trips to Sturgis. He also enjoyed his ’78 Corvette and ‘69 Sport Satellite. Calvin suffered a stroke a few years ago and his health was affected by that incident.

Calvin married Karen Poppe twice: on May 12, 1979, and on May 12, 1989. They later divorced. Two children were born to this union: Matthew Dale Davis, who survives in Hannibal, MO, and Kayla Marie Davis, who survives in St. Louis, MO. Calvin is also survived by two grandchildren, Landon and Layne Davis, and his mother, Dorothy Davis of Unionville, MO.

Calvin was preceded in death by his father and by four half-brothers, Lester, Hubert, Marion, and Henry Davis; and two half-sisters, Lois Bunnell and Mildred Amego.

Funeral services for Calvin will be held at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 15, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Unionville Cemetery.
