Carl Dale Fortney, 72, formerly of Kirksville, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
Dale was a retired teacher and family counselor. He was an avid card player, competing in bridge tournaments nationwide and achieving the rank of Silver Life Master with the American Contract Bridge League. He enjoyed painting, gardening, a good pun, and spending time with friends and family. Dale was baptized at the First United Methodist Church in Kirksville.
Dale was born in Kirksville to Carl Jr. and Virginia Dale (Davidson) Fortney, both deceased. His brother, David L. Fortney, also preceded him in death.
Dale is survived by his stepfather, Charles Chace of Kirksville; daughters Cathy Huff of Edwardsville, IL and Becki (Alex) LaZella of Collinsville, IL; son Bill (Chivon) Fortney of Kirksville; grandchildren Kyle Huff, Michael, Rhiannon, Wendy, and Ezio LaZella, and Trinity and Chloe Fortney; cousin Mike Hanlen of Ballwin, MO; and nephew D.C. Fortney of Chicago, IL.
While Dale asked to be cremated, visitation will be held at 1:00-2:30 pm Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Kirksville. Memorial service will follow the visitation.
