Carl “Donald” Jones, 84, of Kirksville, Missouri, formerly of Novinger, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, March 21, 2025, at The Pines in Kirksville.
Donald was born on October 8, 1940 in Greencastle, MO. The son of Forrest and Edith (Schillie) Jones who preceded him in death. He is a 1959 graduate of Novinger R-1 School. He later married the love of his life, Rita Lou Myers on December 1, 1961 in Novinger. She survives.
Donald was an active man who was deeply involved in the Novinger Baseball and Softball Association where he spent countless hours coaching kids in the community. He also served as President of NBSA for several years. He was an avid woodworker. Donald was a member of the Mid-Missouri Woodworkers Club and Mid-America Lumberman’s Association. He was an active member of the Novinger Lion’s Club where he served as President for many years. As an active member he was a participant of their bowling team. Donald was also a member of the Kirksville El Kadir Shrine Club and was a FreeMason.
Donald began his career in the lumber business right out of high school, working for R.J. Hurley Lumber Company in Kirksville. He later entered a joint venture to establish the McFarland & Jones Lumber Company. After selling the lumber yard he worked at Galloway Lumber Company in Kirksville, Broad Building Supply in Columbia, MO, and Home Depot in Columbia, MO until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, one daughter Michelle (Jones) Carrier, two sisters and two brother-in-laws; Evelyn (Jimmy) Eitel, Lucille (Donnie) Swisher, and one brother and sister-in-law Charles (Onie) Jones. Donald is also survived by his daughter Donna Lou (Larry) Broadwell of Kirksville, son Michael (Stephanie) Jones of Kirksville, two granddaughters; Laura Broadwell and Shafer Jones both of Kirksville, and four grandsons; Dale (Kassie) Broadwell of Novinger, Austin Carrier and fiancee Samantha Williams of New Bloomfield, Shane Jones of Kirksville, and Colton Carrier of New Bloomfield, as well as, several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Donald will be remembered for his patience, kind heart, and ability to fix nearly anything. He will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Novinger Baseball and Softball Association.
