Carol Perkins Kimple, 77, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO, on Thursday, April 26, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Carol Joanne Gillispie was born in Novelty, MO, on January 14, 1941, the daughter of Floyd Cecil “Jack” and Roma (Followwill) Gillispie who preceded her in death. She grew up in Putnam County and graduated from Unionville High School in 1959. She married E. R. “Bud” Webber and lived in Kirksville, MO, Quincy, IL, and Beresford, SD. During that time Carol worked at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College, the Bank of Kirksville and as a waitress in South Dakota. She returned to Unionville in the early 1980’s and began a long career as city clerk for the city of Unionville. Carol married Jimmie Perkins on August 15, 1990, and he preceded her in death on November 3, 2014.
Carol retired as city clerk after many years of service and she and Jim spent several winters in Arizona where they made many friends. Carol loved her community and served Unionville in many capacities: She sang with the Keynotes, was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and was instrumental (along with Jim) in organizing the Memorial Day observances. Carol also took a lead in helping to put the flags around town during special holidays. She was a great organizer and helped with many music jams. Carol was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Unionville for many years. Carol married Randy Kimple on May 6, 2017, and he survives in Unionville.
Carol is survived by her son, Erik Webber, and step-children Frank Perkins, Diane Michaelis, and Shanan (Stan) Schmidt. She is also survived by a sister, Vera (Jim) Schoonover of Excelsior Springs, MO, and brother-in-law Amos McHenry of Unionville, MO, as well as sisters-in-law Connie Kimple, Bonnie Stewart, and Candace Bristow. Others who survive Carol are seven step-grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren, and three special nieces: Susan Robinson and her fiancé Dan Blodgett, Sharon Tormanen, and Barbie Swiger and her husband Eugene, as well as many other nieces and nephews as well as several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Carol was also preceded in death by two brothers, Dallas Gillispie and Floren Gillispie, and a sister, Helen McHenry.
Funeral services for Carol Perkins Kimple will be at the First Christian Church in Unionville, MO, at 10:30 am on Monday, April 30, 2018. Visitation will be at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Sunday, April 29. Interment will be in the Unionville Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the American Legion Auxiliary or the First Christian Church and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
