Charles Jerome “Jerry” Morris, 84 of Kirksville passed away Thursday, March 30, 2023 at his home.
The son of Stanley and Dorothy (Roberts) Morris, he was born September 16, 1938 in Moberly, Missouri. On June 28, 1961 in Chicago, Illinois he was united in marriage to Linda L. Massey.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Linda; two children, Melinda Zambito of Streamwood, IL and Charles Ray Morris of Palatine, IL; three grandchildren, Anthony Michael (Addelina Sahs) Zambito, Zachary Alan Zambito and Patrick Ryan (Adrian Pawlakowski) Zambito; three great grandchildren, Jude Zambito, Lunetta Zambito and Zenyth Zambito; and one sister, Judith Morgan of Warren, MI.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step father, Garland Stewart and one sister, Marilyn Strzelecki.
Jerry was born in Missouri and moved to Chicago. He was raised by his aunts and uncles, where he lived in Milan, Missouri and Chicago, where he attended school. He served a short time in the United States Marine Corp. Jerry worked many jobs including working with his step father in his sewer business, delivering company mail at International Harvester, worked with his aunt at Paul’s Umbrella Hot Dog Stand, played bass guitar and sang, drove a catering truck, built and owned a restaurant known as Weedees in Carol Stream, IL, and owned and raced professional race horses. He retired in 2004 and moved to Kirksville.
He enjoyed working with horses, fishing, gambling, traveling and was a good cook.
Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2023 with funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt Olivet Cemetery in Green City, MO.
