Cheryl Sue Rimathe

June 30, 1935 — December 14, 2022

Cheryl Rimathe, 87, formerly of Slater, Iowa, passed away at the home of her daughter in Powersville, Missouri, on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. She had lived there for about ten years.

Cheryl Sue (Horman) Sims Rimathe was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on June 30, 1935, the daughter of Clifford and Ione Horman.  She graduated from high school in Des Moines.  Cheryl raised her three children and then went to work with EMC Insurance where she worked for 20 years.  She retired as a clerical supervisor.  Cheryl married Wayne Rimathe in Altoona, Iowa, on September 15, 1990.

Cheryl was a strong-willed and dynamic person who lived a full life.  She was an energetic person of varied interests.  Her abiding passion was animals, especially llamas.  She and Wayne raised champion llamas and were active in shows across Iowa for 25 years.  She and Wayne liked to take llamas to nursing homes and they liked to have children come to their farm for educational and fun experiences.  Cheryl also loved her cats.  She wanted to be the best at whatever she did, and this led her to be a perfectionist.  This was clearly seen in the cross-stitch work that she did and displayed at the Iowa state fair.  Cheryl was an active member of the Slater United Methodist church.

Cheryl is survived by her husband, Wayne, of Slater, Iowa, and her three children: Kurt (Michele) Adkins of Altoona, Iowa; Kim (Gary) Ewing of Powersville, Missouri; and Kande (Bill) Willey of Altoona, Iowa.  She is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Her stepchildren are Dianne Wenndt, Lisa Rimathe, Steve Rimathe, Dave Rimathe, and Kristin Newstrom.  Also surviving are 14 step grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren.

A celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held in the spring in Slater, Iowa.  Memorials may be made payable to the Slater United Methodist Church or the Animal Rescue League and entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27 th St., Unionville, MO  63565.
