Clarice Stafford, 90, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Twin Pines Adult Care Center in Kirksville, MO, on Saturday, April 7, 2018, where he had been a resident for about two weeks.
Clarice Arthur Stafford was born in Greentop, MO, on May 30, 1927, the son of George and Gracie (Scott) Stafford, who preceded him in death. Clarice served in the US Army with the Army of Occupation in Korea in 1947, helping to guard the DMZ. He married Wanda Law on November 8, 1948 in Waterloo, IA, and she preceded him in death on March 12, 2012.
Clarice worked in factories with John Deere, Rath Packing Co., and Titus Mfg, all in Waterloo, IA. He then drove a truck for the US Postal Service, carrying mail from Cedar Falls to Dubuque, IA, every night. He and Wanda later moved to Macon, MO, where Clarice worked for the school system as a custodian and bus driver. They moved to Unionville, MO, in 1982, where Clarice worked as a custodian for Putnam County R-1 schools until he retired.
Clarice loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren and other family members who always brought a great deal of enjoyment to him. He liked to play cards, especially Pitch. He also liked working on cars and tinkering around in his garage. His favorite hobby was collecting and driving old Model A and Model T cars and trucks. Clarice also liked watching old westerns movies and listening to Country and Bluegrass music.
Clarice is survived by his four children: daughters Sherry Norte and Joyce Elbert and husband Tom, all of Owatonna, MN; and sons Garry Stafford and Howard Stafford, both of Unionville, MO. Four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Clarice was also preceded in death by a son, George, who passed away July 15, 2007, a son-in-law, Bruce Norte, five brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services for Clarice Stafford will be at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 14, 2018. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Unionville Cemetery in Unionville, MO.
