Colleen Sloop

Colleen Sloop, 101, of Queen City passed away early Tuesday morning (July 2, 2019) in Northeast Regional Medical Center with her daughter and son by her side.

The daughter of Rudolph (Rude) and Anna Schmid she was born June 30, 1918, at the family home west of Queen City. She had two brothers, Joe and Max. She loved her parents and brothers and that love was returned.

Colleen started attending Green Valley Rural School at the age of four so her brother Joe wouldn't be lonely walking to school. She attended Queen City High School and graduated as Salutatorian. She worked part time as a switchboard operator in Queen City as well as writing items for her Aunt Ethel Schmid who was editor ot the Queen City Monitor Leader.

On October 1, 1938, Colleen was united in marriage to Rex Sloop and to this marriage two children were born, Sherry and Bill. They lived on the family farm raising crops and also sold grade A milk.When Rex worked as Post Master and then rural mail carrier, Colleen faithfully kept the calves fed and watered. Their daughter Sherry and son Bill loved that country home and parents. Colleen enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends and had a beautiful garden and flowers.

The family has always appreciated and valued the friendship of neighbors while in the country and in town.
Rex and Colleen loved their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Watching them grow, learn, and laught was their greatest joy, and a great grandson always knows when someone needs a hug.

Colleen was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Rex.

She is survived by her daughter Sherry, son Bill, granddaughter Megan and grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Colleen was a member of the Queen City Christian Church.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Friday (July 5, 2019) at the Dooley Funeral Home, with visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, prior to the service. Burial will be in the Queen City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Rick Fugate, Bill Ford, Jeff Martin, Brian Jones, Walter Clay, and Kaleb Raymer. Honorary Bearers will be Randy Johns, Mike Rigdon, Richard Wheeler, Jim Starbuck, Rob Oliver, Steve Jones, John Applegate, and Zach Stephenson.
