Collene F. Smith

Collene Smith, 77, of Hartford, Missouri, passed away at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri, on Sunday, August 29, 2021, after a brief illness.

Collene F. Smith was born in Graysville, Missouri, on September 15, 1943, the daughter of Gay and Flossie (Sparks) Cain who preceded her in death.  She was reared in the Graysville area and graduated from Livonia (Missouri) High School.  Collene married Ronald “Bud” Smith in Hartford on November 16, 1962, and he survives at home.  Collene lived her entire adult life in Hartford where she was a homemaker.  She liked to cook for her family and loved to have the grandkids come for the weekend.  Home and family were the center of her life.  She liked to feed the birds and watch the wildlife.  She would often jump in the golf cart with her son Ronnie and go down into the woods to view nature.  Collene liked to read mysteries and do crossword and jigsaw puzzles.  She liked to visit the casinos in LaGrange, Missouri, and Osceola, Iowa, and she also had fun playing the scratch-off lottery.

In addition to her husband, Collene is survived by her son Ronnie Smith of Hartford, and two grandchildren, Brandon (Alexis) Taylor and Jamie (Thomas) Renth.  Her four great grandchildren are Cody, Clayton, and Chance Taylor and Rowan Renth.  She is also survived by a brother, Larry Cain of Martinstown, Missouri, and a sister, Patricia Rowland of Queen City, Missouri, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Collene was preceded in death by a son, Randy Noel Smith; a twin sister in infancy, Carolene Cain; and a brother, Leonis Cain.

Graveside services for Collene will be at the Hartford Cemetery at 11:00 am on Friday, September 3, 2021.  Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10:00-10:30 on the same day as the service.  Interment will be at the Hartford Cemetery. Memorials are suggested and checks should be made payable to the Hartford Cemetery and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27 ^th St., Unionville, MO, 63565.
