Connie Eileen Hunt

Connie Hunt, 78, passed away at Putnam County Care Center in Unionville, Missouri, on February 12, 2022, after several years of failing health.

Connie Eileen was born in Unionville, Missouri, on September 9, 1943, to Carl and Mary Emma (Mathews) Thompson. Her father was serving in WWII so she and her Mom lived with her grandparents, Elta and Myrtle Thompson, until Connie was almost two years old. She didn’t like her father when he returned from the war and would only warm up to him when he jingled the change in his pockets.

Connie attended school through the 8th grade at Stringtown School. She then attended Unionville High School where she graduated with the Class of 1961. During school, she was active in 4-H where she most enjoyed the sewing and cooking activities. She made most of her own clothes from the third grade on. She would eventually make all her daughters’ dresses throughout school and early adulthood. Connie could play the piano by ear and would entertain at candy suppers.

Connie married David Hunt on August 12, 1961, and they had three daughters. Connie and David enjoyed taking their daughters on vacations throughout the United States. Connie served as navigator before GPS and frequently got the family lost which led to many family adventures and laughs.

During school and early marriage, Connie had many different jobs including Feldman Clothing, G & E, and a bookkeeper at Hy-Vee. After marrying David, she also worked in the family fireworks business.  Later in life, she altered wedding dresses for Donna’s Bridal and was a bookkeeper for Forever Friends. She and her husband, David, worked in the tax accounting business until his death. After that time, she worked as an assistant to the County Clerk and with her niece Shannon in running the “Take the Cake” café and catering business.

Connie was a member of the First Christian Church where she coordinated the funeral dinners for many years. She was a charter member of the Busy Homemakers Extension Club and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She also served on the board of directors for Hospice of Northeast Missouri and PC Café and Resource Center.

Cooking was Connie’s love language. She truly loved cooking for her friends and family. Everyone who tasted her food had a favorite. Family favorites included her cinnamon rolls, homemade bread, apple pie, and chocolate sheet cake.

She moved into the Putnam County Care Center due to failing health. She enjoyed her time there including daily phone calls from her daughters, who scheduled their calls around the Cardinals game or you got the play-by-play of what was happening. She spent time watching birds, doing puzzles, and keeping up with friends and family on Facebook. Connie truly loved spending time with her family, including her sisters and playing cards with them and her brother. She also enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren’s activities.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and one son-in-law, Chad Kennell.

She is survived by her daughters: Gwendolyn (Greg) Sowder of (Kansas City, MO), Lorri Hunt (Kansas City, MO), and Heather Kennell (Parkville, MO); Two sisters: Jeneen (Carroll) Roof and Peggy (Jack) Ingersoll and one brother Craig (Julie) Thompson (Platte City, MO); Four Grandchildren: Skylar (Wendy) Sowder (Fort Scott, KS), Madison (Tyler) Wesselman (Platte City, MO), Rylee Kennell, Layni Kennell (Parkville, MO), and six great grandchildren: Clara Lynn, Beau, Faith, Jade, Jaxon, and Ella.

Pallbearers for the service will be her grandchildren and son-in-law. Honorary pallbearers are her nieces and nephew.

Visitation will be on Friday, February 18, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 pm. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 10:30 am with interment in the Unionville Cemetery. Suggested memorials to PC Café and Resource Center, Putnam County Care Center, Unionville First Christian Church, and Hospice of Northeast Missouri and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27 ^th St., Unionville, MO  63565.
