Curt Murphy, 38, of Powersville, MO, passed away suddenly at his farm in rural Powersville on Saturday, April 8, 2017
Curt Lee Murphy was born in Corydon, IA, on May 10, 1978, the son of Wayne and Wilma (Garten) Murphy, who preceded him in death. Curt was reared on the family farm near Powersville, MO, and graduated from Putnam County High School in 1996. He worked briefly at the Powersville Meat Locker and then for two years at the Holt Meat Locker in Holt, MO. He returned to Powersville where he became a contract mail carrier. Curt also had a very active mowing service and engaged in farming with his father and brother, Craig. Curt married Sandi Ridgeway at Curt’s home on September 4, 2016, and she survives at home.
Curt was a very personable and likable fellow. He knew a large number of people throughout the area. He liked to visit at local coffee shops and businesses. He also liked to attend the Sewal jam sessions. Curt was an avid and enthusiastic fan of anything John Deere. He also loved to look at the large variety of stamps put out by the postal service. Curt was a good hearted person who loved his family and community. He would truly go out of his way to help anyone in need. He had a good sense of humor and was an energetic entrepreneur.
In addition to his wife, Curt his survived by a step-son, Corbin Gilliand, and a step-daughter, Aviendha Gilliand. He is also survived by a brother, Craig (Shelly) Murphy of Powersville, MO; and two sisters, Connie (Bobby) Davis of Corydon, IA, and Cindy Murphy of Powersville. His nephews are Bryce Murphy, Levi and Zach Davis, and his nieces are Kelsey Murphy and Emily and Samantha Dover. Curt is also survived by his mother and father-in-law, Ruth Ann and Stanley Ridgeway, and two sisters-in-law, Susan (Mark) Dover, Sabrina Ridgeway, and a brother-in-law, Stanley Wayne Ridgeway.
Funeral services for Curt Murphy will be at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home at 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 13, with visitation on Wednesday, April 12, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Interment will be at the Powersville Cemetery, Powersville, MO.
Memorials are suggested to the Powersville Community Hall or the Somerset Community Hall and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
