Darilyn Andrew, 64, of Unionville, Missouri, passed away at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, January 13, 2020. She had battled pancreatic cancer for over three months.
Darilyn Adine (Ramsey) was born in Iowa City, Iowa, on March 28, 1955, the daughter of Ira and Gladys (Beardsley) Ramsey, who preceded her in death. She was reared in Davenport, Iowa and also lived in Moline, Illinois, before moving to Unionville in the early 1980’s. She married James “Jim” Edwin Andrew at the Stringtown Church in Putnam County, Missouri, on September 18, 1983, and he preceded her in death on May 9, 1996.
Darilyn operated a restaurant and laundry mat in Unionville for a number of years. She also worked at Neely’s in Seymour, Iowa, and retired from the shipping department at Dunlap in Unionville. She enjoyed reading, especially mysteries and science fiction. She loved to play with her grandkids. Darilyn was in a bowling league when she lived in Davenport and also raced go-karts. She was one of the first women to join the Unionville Fire Department.
Darilyn is survived by three children: Eric (Ann) Hull and Anthony “Tony” Andrew of Unionville, Missouri, and Beth (Codie) Williams of Powersville, Missouri. She also has seven grandchildren: Haley Hull, Cameron Hull, Christian Hull, Faith Hull, Evan Grace Andrew, Katie Williams and Gage Williams, as well as one great granddaughter, Madilyn Fortune. Darilyn is also survived by four step-children: James Paul (Shirley) Andrew of Unionville, Missouri, Jason (Becky) Andrew of Corydon, Iowa, Susan (Darren Rutherford of Liberty, Missouri, and Bobbi (Wayne) Farris of Livonia, Missouri. Seven step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren survive, as well as a brother, Howard Ramsey of Unionville, and Mary Jo Coleman of St. John, Michigan.
In addition to her husband and parents, Darilyn was preceded in death by several siblings: Barbara Alice Ramsey, Ira "Junior" Ramsey. Jr., Donna Marie Ramsey (Poteet), Dorothy Diane Ramsey, Vinson Lee Ramsey, Bette Ann Ramsey (Knepper), Alfred Leroy "Butch" Ramsey, Marion Henry "Manny" Ramsey, Margie Ramsey (Nicholson), and Carl Gordon Ramsey.
Darilyn’s wishes were to be cremated. A private graveside service will be held at the Unionville Cemetery on Wednesday, January 22, 2020. A public visitation with the family will take place at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, January 22.
