Donald A. Cass 95, of Queen City passed away Monday (November 18,2019) in the Clarence Care Center in Clarence, Missouri, where he had resided for the last several months.
The son of Carl Burkett and Martha Grace (Mitchell) Cass he was born October 31, 1924, at the family home in rural Queen City. Don grew up in rural Queen City and attended the Patterson Rural School and the Queen City High School, graduating with the class of 1943.
In December of 1944 Don enlisted in the Merchant Marines and served until the end of World War II. In December of 1948 he was inducted into the United States Army Air Force and when the two split he transferred to the Air Force where he served for thirty-three months before being honorably discharged.
After the service Don moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where he worked for Swift and Company.
About 1984 he moved back to Queen City to take care of his aging parents. He did fencing work for a number of years and then worked at Twin Pines Care Center for several years doing maintenance.
He is survived by a sister Marie Devore Dodson, three nephews; Mike Dodson and wife Donna, Mark Dodson, and Matt Dodson, two great nephews Jason Dodson and wife Karen and Kris Dodson and wife Amy and two great nieces Stephanie Ierly and husband Billy and Kelly McGlothlen. He is also survived by two great great nephews and one great great niece.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Norma McGlothlen, two brothers-in-law, Ed Dodson and Mick McGlothlen, two nephews Dennis Dodson and Jeff McGlothlen, and a great nephew John McGlothlen. He was also preceded by an aunt Mildred Shaner and an uncle Lavon Cass.
He was a member of the Queen City Methodist Church and attended the Lancaster Methodist Church until going into the Care Center.
Don was very fortunate to be able to live on his own until this last year.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday (December 7, 2019) in the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor H.R. Rogers officiating. Burial will be in the Queen City Cemetery. Military service will be conducted by the Schuyler County American Legion Post 784.
Pallbearers will be Gary Stump, Randy Whitlow, David Sidwell, Mark Dodson, and John Eichmier.
Visitation with the family will be Friday (December 6,2019) from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Dooley Funeral Home, Queen City, Missouri.
