Donald “Ray” Kirkpatrick, 80 of Kirksville passed away Thursday (January 18, 2018) at his home.

The son of Eddie Ross and Edith Agnes (Brassfield) Kirkpatrick, he was born February 27, 1937 in Osceola, MO. On October 7, 1956 in Kirksville he was united in marriage to Genita Ann “Jan” Cornelison.

Ray is survived by his wife, Jan; his children, David Kirkpatrick and wife Pamela of Kearney, MO, Donna Vincent and husband John of Kirksville and Sue Peacock and husband Charles Jr. of Kirksville; six grandchildren, Faith Spiker, Elijah Peacock, Hailey Sullins, Morgan Vincent, MacKenzie Vincent and John Vincent; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Floyd Kirkpatrick of Bremerton, WA; two sisters, Edith Sanders and husband Sandy of Marysville, CA and Barbara Myers of Novinger, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and six brothers and sisters, Elvis Kirkpatrick, Dixie Zack, Marie Comer, Juanita Ferguson, Frances King, and Elaine Ambrose.

Ray raised in Monegaw Springs, MO until age 5. His family moved to Kirksville where he attended Kirksville Schools. He worked 4 years at the Florsheim Shoe Factory. He then started working in construction, where he was a concrete finisher until he retired.

In 1992 he became a member of the cement masons union, local #518. He had his pilot’s license and built and flew experimental aircraft. He played in the Sunshine band, playing at local nursing homes and small town functions. He loved to play guitar, garden and was a St. Louis Cardinal fan.

He was a loyal friend, husband, and father. He worked hard all his life. He loved the old time country music, Roy Acuff, Hank Williams etc… He loved singing and performing. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren. He loved his wife very much. When they were 5 they first saw each other and he told her he was going to marry her one day. They celebrated 61 years of marriage last October.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday (January 22, 2018) at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday (January 23, 2018) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Terry Hunsaker and Reverend Steven Nelson officiating. Burial will be in New Harmony Cemetery in Greentop, MO.

Pallbearers will be Elijah Peacock, John Vincent Jr., Charles Peacock Jr., Doug Blodgett, Jeffrey Blodgett, and Jeff Martin.
