Donald Eugene Sidwell

Donald Eugene Sidwell, 94, of rural Queen City, Missouri, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2023, in University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

The son of Irvin and Icye Mullanix Sidwell, he was born August 31, 1928 at the old home place in rural Queen City. Don was raised on the family farm and received his education at the Queen City Public School graduating with the class of 1947. After his graduation he and his father farmed in partnership.  Don and his father started in registered Angus cattle in 1944 and raised a fine herd which Don loved his little cattle operation and how they looked.

On February 18, 1950, he was united in marriage to Perlina “Jean” Graves who preceded him in death on September 14, 1968. To this marriage three daughters were born, Donita, Denise, and Diane.

In the fall of 1953 to 1954 Don and Jean were in California where he worked for Standard Oil Co. In 1955 he worked for Smith Tractor, the Oliver Dealer in Kirksville and in 1957 he worked for Smith Brothers Lime and Fertilizer Company driving a truck spreading lime and fertilizer.  In 1959 he bought his Uncles farm which joined the home place and in 1975 he bought the home place.

On May 15, 1969 he was united in marriage to Kay Jones and to this marriage one son, Kyle was born.  Don and Kay were big into Gas Engines and Tractor Shows. He became a director at Portland, Indiana, for four years. John Deere tractors were his love. He and Kay went to many engine shows in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and Oklahoma. They took trips to shows in Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, France, and two trips to England.

Don is survived by his wife Kay; three daughters, Donita Rohrbach and husband Jim of Naples, FL, Denise Bowling and husband Tim of Queen City, MO, and Diane Toney and husband Keith of Kirksville, MO; one son, Kyle Sidwell and wife Laura of Queen City, MO; grandchildren, Karen Toney Kramer and husband Brad, of Kansas City, MO, Ryan Toney and wife Rachael of Kansas City, MO, Christia Toney Rouner and husband David of Kirksville, MO, Justis and wife Lindsay Bowling of New Cambria, MO, Kendra and Lucas McClamroch of Columbia, MO, Paige Williams and fiance Brandon Ault of Kirksville, MO,  Cadence Meeker, and Joseph Sidwell; eleven great grandchildren,  Jaden and Addison Bowling, Madison and Emma McClamroch, Taylin and Ryleigh Kramer, Izabella, Breanne Anastyn, and Kensli Toney, Andrew and Kenda Rouner and Waylen Ault; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Joshua Bowling; four brothers-in-law, and one sister.

Don loved his family. His wife was a great partner and loved to work beside him on the farm. He took great pride in his farm. He loved being with his children and helping them and loved the time he spent with the grandchilden. He spent much time hand feeding the calves in the winter time. He really enjoyed life.

He was a member of the Queen City Christian Church where he had served as a deacon and a trustee.

Funeral service will be held Friday (June 23, 2023) at 11:00 a.m. in the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Burial will be in the Queen City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Toney, Justis Bowling, Mark Jones, Bill Ford, Brian Jones, and Mark Bushnell.  Honorary bearers will be Butch Robinson, Russell Bushnell, and Jim Werner.

Visitation will be Thursday (June 22, 2023) with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.in the Dooley Funeral Home, Queen City, MO.
