Donita Lou Weece

Donita Weece, 85, of Unionville, Missouri, passed away at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville on Friday, November 19, 2021.

Donita Lou Burr Weece was born in Pritchett, Colorado, on November 18, 1936, the daughter of Ed Burr and Blanche (Whittiker) Burr, who preceded her in death.  She was raised in Dodge City, KS, where she graduated from high school.  She played basketball in high school, was a cheerleader and the Editor of the school yearbook and was crowned the Winter Queen her senior year.  She then attended Ozark Christian College and married a preacher, Gene Weece, in Dodge City, Kansas, on January 20, 1956, who preceded her in death.

Donita and Gene raised 5 children. A great cook, her specialties were pancakes, biscuits and gravy, peanut butter fudge, and pies. She was a gifted piano teacher.  Her college professor wanted her to go on to be a concert pianist. She served along with Gene in the church, playing the piano and the organ. She taught Wee Worship, Sunday School, and a Ladies’ Bible study. She made clothes for her children and grandchildren.  She made teddy bears and rugs. She sold Mary Kay for 14 years.  She also worked as a doctor’s receptionist and a church secretary.

Donita is survived by four children: Phil (Karen) Weece, of Arkansas City, Kansas, Paul (Julie) Weece of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Susan (Pedro) Castro, Unionville, Missouri, and Sarah (Doug) Modlin of Massillon, Ohio.  Her surviving grandchildren are Josh (Corrine) Weece, Tanner Weece, Titus (Grace) Weece, Morgan Weece, Austin (Melea) Weece, Kelsey (Logan) Klick, Taylor (Kelly) Modlin, and Amber Modlin.  She is also survived by twelve great grandchildren: Quan, Sadie, Olivia, Samuel, Ivy, Russell, June, Troian, Leo, Rey, Gideon, and Paula.  She is survived by one sibling, Bill (Roberta) Burr of Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Donita was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Elaine Weece, and a stillborn son, Timothy Weece.  She was also preceded in death by sisters Janie (and husband Bob) Walters, Marita (and husband Ed) Deis, and brother Gary (and wife Martha) Burr.

Funeral services for Donita Weece will be at Unionville First Christian Church in Unionville, Missouri, at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, with visitation at the church from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. The service will be live streamed on the Facebook page of Unionville First Christian Church.  Please call 660-947-2205 for information on streaming.  Interment will be at the Unionville Cemetery in Unionville, Missouri.
