Donna Mccartney

Donna J. McCartney of Kirksville passed away on January 19 just 4 days short of her 86th birthday. Donna was born in Kirksville on January 23, 1933 to Laura Scriven Horton and Alden Horton. Except for one year in California, Donna lived her entire life in Kirksville. On December 9, 1951, Donna was united in marriage with Ralph McCartney, who preceded her in death in 1997.

Donna graduated from Kirksville High School in 1950. In March of 1951, Donna started working as a telephone operator at the Southwestern Bell Telephone office in Kirksville. Donna continued to work there until August, 1978 when the operators were phased out of service.

Donna is survived by her two daughters, Sheila of Kirksville and Teresa of Woodbury, Minnesota. Donna is also survived by siblings, William (Verna) Drennan of Kirksville, Carolyn Durham of Kirksville and Janie (Gordon) Durham of Clark; aunt, Lucille McIntrye of Kirksville; sister-in-law, Phyllis McCartney of Kirksville, brother-in-law, Robert Mollick of Kirksville, brother-in-law, Julian Mollick of Cairo, brother-in-law, Bob Durham of LaPlata and several nieces and nephews.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Patty Mollick, Jolene Mollick and Nancy Durham.

Join Donna’s daughters for a celebration of life on Saturday afternoon, January 26 from 12:00 – 3:00 in the Family Center at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Kirksville; light refreshments will be served. There will be a private burial at a later date. It was Donna’s wish to have donations made to the Adair County Humane Society in her name in lieu of flowers.
