Doris Wade, 97 of Kirksville passed away Monday (August 27, 2018) at Twin Pines Adult Care Center.
Doris was born March 28, 1921 in Newtown, MO the daughter of Zebedee (Z.D.) and Stella (Winder) Johnson. When she was 3 years old her family moved to the Sperry community. She attended Olive Hill Grade School. In November 1935 the family moved to Kirksville where she graduated from Kirksville High School in 1939. She married Floyd Wade on March 24, 1939 in Tacoma, Washington. When Floyd returned from Aleutian Islands in 1944 they lived in Gainesville, Florida for one year. She attended Kirksville State Teacher College pursuing a business education. She retired in 1982 after working as a bookkeeper for 40 years. She worked for Arnold Lumber Co., Grim Smith Hospital, MFA, Secretary to the Superintendent of schools, Cecil Darr and Larry Gardner Accounting.
Doris was baptized at Sperry Baptist Church when a small child. She was a member of Hamilton Street Baptist Church.
Doris is survived by her son, Robert (Marilyn) Wade of Kirksville; two grandchildren, Randy (Laura) Ferguson of Independence, MO and Kandy (Habe) Darr of Lawson, MO; and two great grandchildren, Hunter and Hayden Darr.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one sister, Marion Lindquist.
Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday (August 31, 2018) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Friday with Reverend Steven Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hills Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Hamilton Street Baptist Church.
