Dorothy Jean Gosser

Dorothy Jean (Neal) Gosser of Queen City, passed away on December 4, 2018 in Columbia, Missouri.

Dorothy was born January 24, 1925 to Ray and Cecil (Cleveland) Neal in rural Franklin County, Illinois. On November 16, 1946 she married Nelson Gilbert Gosser in Benton, Illinois. They had two children, Sandra Hayton (Richard) of Columbia, Missouri, and Jerry (Laura) Gosser, of Lewisville, Texas, both of whom survive.

Also surviving are six grandchildren, Ronda Randolph, Blue Springs, MO; Brooke (Walt) Imhoff, Jamestown, MO, Ryan Hayton (Erin Oppy), Jefferson City, MO, Grant, Hannah, and Hayley Gosser all of Lewisville, Texas; and seven great-grandchildren: Justin (Lucy)Randolph, Jessica (Nick)Troutwine, Morgan, Lauren, and Dalton Imhoff, and Margaret and Bridget Hayton
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, parents, father and mother-in-law Nelson and Lulu Gosser, brother and sister-in-law, Virgil and Edith Neal; sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Nicholas Subic.

Dorothy “Dot” attended a country school in Franklin County, Illinois and graduated from Benton Township High School in 1942. After graduation she joined her sister in Detroit and worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” in the war effort employed by Essex Wire. She met Gilbert while he was on leave from the Army Air Corps during World War II. After his discharge they were married and settled into farm life in Schuyler County where they farmed until they retired. Dorothy was also employed at the Lambert Glove Factory and as a medical secretary for several doctors in Kirksville. She and Gilbert enjoyed playing cards with friends, travels in their RV, and spending time with family. In her later years she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, visiting with friends, and putting together jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed serving in the community and worked for the Food Room in Lancaster.

Dorothy was a long time member of the New Hope United Methodist Church and later the Lancaster United Methodist Church where she and Gilbert enjoyed the fellowship of their church family. She was a member of Eastern Star for more than seventy years, and was also active in other church activities.

Known fondly by her family as “Mamaw,” she will be deeply missed and long remembered.

Visitation with the family will be from 9:30 to 11:00 am on Saturday, December 8 at the Lancaster United Methodist Church, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 at the church. Burial will be in the Queen City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Hayton, Grant Gosser, Dalton Imhoff, Justin Randolph, Walt Imhoff, and Nick Troutwine.
