Dorothy Ann Musgrove

October 1, 1931 — October 9, 2022

Dorothy Ann (Bokros) Musgrove,91, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022, at Good Samaritan Florida Lutheran Care Center in Deland, Florida.

Born in Trumbull County, Ohio, on October 1, 1931, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Gmucs) Bokros of Warren, Ohio, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Robert Musgrove, brothers; Charles Bokros, George Bokros, Jr. and a sister, Mary (Sis) Dixon. She is survived by her children; Cathy Neville of Gallipolis, Ohio, Jim Musgrove (Susan) of Deland, Florida, and Cindy Clemens (Frank) of Chesapeake, Virginia.  Two grandchildren; Adam Queen of Rothenberg, Germany, and Christiana Wells of Gallipolis, Ohio, and great-grandson, Joesy Johnson of Gallipolis, Ohio. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and many, many precious friends.

Dorothy was a woman known for being a hard worker.  She retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber/Shell Chemical Plant in Applegrove, West Virginia. She was also one of the original employees at Robbins and Myers new location in Gallia County, Ohio.

Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, and a loyal friend to many. She valued hard work, honesty, and love of home and family. She was a wonderful cook and I’m sure many of you benefited from that skill, as did we. Dorothy was a skilled needle woman and seamstress, making clothing for the whole family. The homes of her children are adorned with many beautiful examples of her skill with a crochet hook and needle. She loved gardening, and summers were spent growing vegetables for the table and canning for the winter months. She also enjoyed surrounding our home with incredible, lovely flowers. She enjoyed traveling and seeing the sights around our amazing country with her husband and, later, her friends. Country music and all types of dancing were also things in which she enjoyed participating.

In later years, Dorothy returned to her Catholic roots and became an active member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Gallipolis, Ohio.  My Mom had an opera quality soprano singing voice and sang in the Church Choir.  She once told me that though her voice had faded over the years, she loved singing to God and would continue to do so as long as she was able. As a high school graduate, she was accepted at the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but chose instead to become a farmer’s wife and raise a family.

Dorothy was much loved and will be sadly missed so much by so many. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Jim, at Shoney Cemetery in Unionville, Missouri, with graveside services at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 15, 2022, with Playle and Collins Funeral Home handling the arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shoney Cemetery Maintenance Fund, c/o John Jarvis, St. Louis Catholic Church in Gallipolis, Ohio, or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
