Dorothy Kathryn Peavler

Our Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, Dorothy Kathryn (Schreiner) Peavler, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2021. She will be dearly missed by her family.

Dorothy was born on March 18, 1927, in Pittsburgh, PA. She was the second of three children born to Conrad J Schreiner and Bertha (Dembrosky) Schreiner. She grew up in the Pittsburgh Southside area and graduated from high school there in 1945.

On May 18, 1957, she married Dr Robert J Peavler and were married 26 years until his death in 1983. They had lived in Ottawa, KS and Overland Park, KS before moving to Kirksville, MO in 1964. She resided in Kirksville until her death.

While raising three children, Dorothy earned Bachelor and Masters degrees from Northeast Missouri State College in 1967 and 1969. She was also a substitute teacher at Kirksville High School in the 1970s.

Dorothy is survived by three children: Robert D Peavler (Wendy) of Cary, NC; Emily Gross (Steve) of Fort Bragg, CA; and James T Peavler of Kirksville, MO. She is also survived by four grandchilden: Sarah Meredith (Christopher) of Raleigh, NC; Kristen Peavler of Raleigh, NC; Jennifer Peavler of Madison, WI, and Ashley Peavler of Cary, NC and two great grandchildren: Connor Meredith and Corinne Meredith of Raleigh.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Robert J Peavler (1983); a brother, Conrad and a sister, Margaret.

In lieu of flowers and letters of sympathy, it would be Dorothy's wish for those to do something kind or special for themselves or their loved ones.

There will be a visitation on Saturday, November 20, 10am to 11am at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home 2100 E Shepherd Ave, Kirksville, MO.
