E. Wayne Newman
October 14, 1931 – August 9, 2024

E. Wayne Newman, surrounded by his family, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, August 9, 2024.
First and foremost, Wayne was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He lived a
life of service to his country, community and church; as an Army veteran, respected
educator/administrator, a faithful Christian and servant of Christ and His church. He was loved by many
and left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

The son of Elmer and Lou Ella (Hern) Newman, he was born October 14, 1931 in Higbee, Missouri. On
August 31, 1957 in Moberly, Missouri he married Jo Westfall. Wayne is survived by his wife, Jo; three
daughters, Patricia Lyn (David) Bolton, Kimberly Gayle (Greg) Plett, and Julie Beth Newman;
grandchildren, Amy (Aaron) Becker, Jennifer (Daniel) Chesser, Sarah Bolton, Kyle (Kelsey) Bolton, and
Jacob (Carolyn) Plett; great grandchildren, Brody Becker, Addison Becker, Baylor Chesser, Clara Chesser,
and Jack Plett arriving this December.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, T.R. Fisher and Donald Newman; and one sister,
Hilda Burgin.

Wayne grew up in Higbee, Missouri where he graduated from Higbee High School in 1949. On July 15,
1952 he was inducted into the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He graduated from
Northeast Missouri State University under the GI Bill where he earned his Bachelor’s in Business
Administration and Master’s in Guidance and Counseling. He was a teacher from 1958 to 1965 and then
in Administration at Truman State University from 1965 until 1995, as Financial Aid Director, Director of
Upward Bound, Head of Division of Professional Development and Director of Community College.
He was president of the Missouri Financial Aid Association and School College Relations. He served as
member of the Corporate Board of American College Testing, Federal Government Committee to
determine Financial Allotments to Schools of Higher Education throughout Missouri, Committee to set
guidelines for Missouri Grant Program, and Committee to set guidelines for Academic Progress. He was
a member of First Baptist Church in Kirksville, where he and Patti went forward together to publicly
accept Christ as their Lord and Savior. He served First Baptist as deacon for 40 years, as well as
chairman and member of many committees.

Wayne described himself as mild and easy to get along with; he didn’t worry about a lot and took things
as they came. He was proud that he was a good administrator and had the ability to organize and
provide direction. He thought of himself as a critical thinker, and a thoughtful decision maker. Wayne
enjoyed gardening and playing golf; however, he enjoyed his family most of all.
