Edith Thompson Young Green Musick, age 98, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, February 10th, 2024 at The Pines Nursing Home in Kirksville. She was born to Leonard and Lela (Kephart) Thompson on February 9th, 1926.
On November 1st, 1947, she was united in marriage to James Franklin Young who preceded her in death on December 21st, 1983. To this union, four children were born.
On November 23, 1986, she married Kenneth (Jack) Green who preceded her in death on December 31st, 1990. On November 15th, 1991, she married Forest Musick who preceded her in death on January 27th, 2012.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Laverne Thompson of Kirksville and Leon Thompson of Albany, Georgia.
Surviving her are three daughters, Sue Scala (and husband Dave) of Surprise, Arizona; Nancy Peterson; Martha Young; and son James Donald Young, all of Kirksville, Missouri. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Jason Scala (and wife Jaimee): Gina (Scala) Martin (and husband Sean); Mick Boonyapricha; Tim Boonyapricha (and wife Yasmine); and James Peterson (and wife Randi). Also surviving are six great-grandchildren.
Edith was a lifelong resident of Adair County and received her 8th grade education in the Rural Dell School. She graduated from the Kirksville Senior High School in the Class of 1943 and had served as the Secretary and Treasurer of the class since graduation.
She was employed in the tax department of the City of Kirksville for 25 years. She spent 24 years as a franchisee for H&R Block Tax Preparation Services and 12 years doing business as Edith’s Tax Service in Edina, Missouri. She loved her work and times with her clients, family, and friends. She was a member of the Bullion United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be held for one hour before the service from 10-11 a.m. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 14th, 2024, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest by her husband, James Young, at Pattonsburg Memorial Gardens (formally known as IOOF Cemetery) in Pattonsburg, Missouri. Reverend Chuck Watson will officiate. Suggested music is “One Day at a Time”, and “I’ll Fly Away”.
