Edna May Stottlemyre

May 25, 1930 — January 22, 2021

Edna Stottlemyre, 90, of Unionville, Missouri, passed from this life at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri, on Friday, January 22, 2021, due to the effects of Covid 19.

Edna May (Potter) Stottlemyre was born in the Wolfe District of Putnam County, Missouri, on May 25, 1930, the daughter of Simp and Clara (Korns) Potter.  She attended Wolfe rural school and Unionville High School.  Edna married Vern A. Stottlemyre in Kansas on November 14, 1946, and from this union two sons were born, Vern David and Gary Lee Stottlemyre.

Edna spent most of her life in Putnam County except for a few years in the mid 1950’s when she and her family lived near Oskaloosa, Iowa and later near Sycamore, Illinois.  After moving back to Missouri, she spent several years working for Toastmaster in Centerville, Iowa, and later at Serve-Link for Older Citizens out of Trenton, Missouri.

Edna and her family became Christ followers during a revival in the fall of 1962 in which missionary Oscar Wells from China preached at the First Baptist Church in Unionville.  She was a faithful member at First Baptist until the day she passed.  She dearly loved her earthly family and her church family.  She was “Aunt Edna” to everyone at church as well as to her family.  She had a sweet and caring spirit and was a fixture in the church kitchen.

Edna is survived by her son, Vern David (Nancy) Stottlemyre of Milan, Missouri, and one sister, Leta (Fred) Torrey of Unionville, Missouri.  She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Kenneth (Sandy) Stottlemyre of Unionville, Missouri, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, who died August 1, 1989, her son Gary, who died July 7, 1979, two sisters, Pauline Potter, and Ruby Johnson, and a brother, Clell Potter.
