Elizabeth Lewis, 92, of Lucerne, Missouri, passed away at Corydon Specialty Care in Corydon, IA, on Thursday, June 18, 2020. She had been a resident there about six years.
Elizabeth Mae Lewis was born in Harris, Missouri, on February 19, 1928, the daughter of John M. and Margaret M. (Boyd) Tuller, who preceded her in death. She was reared in that area, attending country schools through the eighth grade. Elizabeth married James Lewis in Unionville on March 31, 1948, and he preceded her in death on January 9, 2008. Elizabeth and James lived most of their married life on a farm west of Lucerne, Missouri, where Elizabeth raised her family, sewed clothes and blankets for her family, and canned produce from her garden, waging a mighty war against the tomato bugs. She was a wonderful cook; especially delicious were her noodles, fried chicken, and hot rolls.
Elizabeth worked at Banquet Foods in Milan, Missouri, for a few years after the children were gone and then began work in the 1980’s as a bookkeeper for Cooley Farm Service in Lucerne. She worked there for several years, retiring in 2002. Elizabeth had a gentle spirit and kind soul. She dearly loved her family. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Lucerne Christian Church.
Elizabeth is survived by three children: Keith (Nettie) Lewis, of Lucerne, Missouri; Jerry (Donna) Lewis of Newtown, Missouri; and David (Deneen) Lewis of Newtown, Missouri. He son-in-law and Larry McCollum of Trenton, Missouri. Eleven grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren also survive, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth was also preceded in death by her daughter, Linda McCollum, a sister, Mary Kirby, and four brothers, Noah Tuller, Johnny Tuller, George Tuller, and James Tuller.
Funeral services for Elizabeth Lewis will be at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville, Missouri, on June 22, 2020, at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Lucerne Cemetery.
Memorials for Elizabeth are suggested to the American Legion Auxiliary, the Lucerne Cemetery, or the American Cancer Society and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
