Zella Elizabeth Torrey Williams, known as Elizabeth, died on July 2, 2022, after a brief illness.
Elizabeth was born on August 15, 1924, to Joe and Bertha Torrey in the same country house in which her mother was born in Lucerne, MO. She attended 12 years of school in Lucerne and then continued onto Chillicothe Business College. From there she moved to Chicago where she met her future husband, Lon Williams. They were married in 1947, had one son, Alan, and over the years lived in Chicago, West Boxford, Massachusetts, and Syracuse, New York. She spent her final years at the Fairhaven Retirement Home in Birmingham, AL.
She was a talented crocheter and made many creations for family and friends. Her hobby was writing and receiving long letters and she corresponded with many individuals from around the country.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Lon, who passed away 2 months before their 60 th wedding anniversary. She leaves behind her son, Alan (Maryellen) of Birmingham, AL, granddaughters Erika (Mike) Schmit of Atlanta, GA, and Sara (Kevin) Liles of Vestavia Hills, AL. Left behind also are 6 great-grandchildren, Emily, Lauren and Matthew Schmit and Graham, Luke and Sophie Liles.
A graveside service will be held at the Lucerne Cemetery, Lucerne, MO, on Monday morning July 11 th at 10:00 am. Memorials can be made to the PC Café and Resource Center and entrusted to the Playle & Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27 th Street, Unionville, MO 63565
