Elvan Lynn Holliday

August 21, 1946 — June 18, 2022

Elvan Holliday, 75, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia on Saturday, June 18, 2022.

Elvan Lynn Holliday was born in Lemons, Missouri, on August 21, 1946, the son of John Howard and Mary Lois (Hackney) Holliday who preceded him in death.  His family moved between Illinois, Oregon, and Colorado when Elvan was a youngster before settling in Columbia where he graduated from Hickman High School in 1965.  He then began a long career in the grocery store business working for Temple-Stephens, Nowell’s, and Moser grocery stores, all in Columbia.  Elvan worked primarily in the dairy department.  His kind-hearted spirited and friendly nature made him a natural in customer relations.  He liked to visit with folks and was a hard worker.  Ill health forced Elvan into an early retirement. Elvan married Fay Mullins in Tennessee on July 10, 1976. He loved the Chicago Cubs, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Missouri Tigers and enjoyed listening to Harry Carey broadcasting the games.  He was also very fond of dogs and cats.   Elvan was a good Papa and loved his family.

Elvan is survived by his wife, Fay of Columbia, and his daughter, Jamie Lynne (George) Szabo also of Columbia, as well as three grandchildren, Damien Edmiston, Marissa Edmiston, and George Szabo.  Elvan is also survived by two brothers, Melvan (Audrey) Holliday of Russellville, Missouri, and Kevan Holliday of Jefferson City, Missouri.

Funeral services for Elvan will be at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 24, with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be at the Lemons Cemetery.

Memorials should be made payable to the Alzheimer’s Foundation and entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27 th St., Unionville, MO  63565.
