Eric Scott Johnston, 36 of Kirksville passed away Thursday (February 8, 2018) at Northeast Regional Medical Center.

The son of Robert and Mary (Backs) Johnston, he was born May 26, 1981 in Springfield, IL. He grew up on the mission field and was home schooled. He loved spending time working on the farm and riding motorcycles. He was an inspiration to many and always had a positive outlook. He was a loving son, brother and uncle who will be missed by all. He fought hard until the end. He was a fan of NASCAR and UFC.

Eric is survived by his mother, Mary Johnston of Kirksville; two sisters, Dawn Baker and husband Hal of Clinton, AR and Stephanie Jamison and husband Mike of Wright City, MO; seven nieces and nephews, Tyler, Timothy, Hallie and Hannah Baker, Levi, Evan and Avery Jamison; his grandfather, George Johnston; his dog/son, Doc; and several aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents, Warren Backs, Hermina Backs, and Lora Eileen Johnston.

Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday (February 10, 2018) with funeral service to be held at 3:00 p.m. at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Pastor Earl Baker officiating. Burial will be in Jewell Cemetery northwest of Kirksville.

Pallbearers will be Jason Robertson, Brad Ellsworth, Tyler Baker, Timothy Baker, Billy White and John Backs.
