Frances P. Helton, age 82 of Kirksville passed away Tuesday (July 11, 2017) at University Hospital in Columbia, MO.
The daughter of Phillip L. and Beulah B. (Buck) Scott, she was born January 22, 1935 in Millard, MO. On May 20, 1953 in Kirksville, MO she was united in marriage to Russell Burnell Helton.
Frances is survived by her husband of 64 years, Burnell; one daughter, Katheryn J. Helton of Independence, MO; one son, Stephen R. Helton and wife Faith of Maryville, IL; one granddaughter, Shelly Dutton and husband Gerald of Monmouth, OR; two great grandchildren, Hunter Helton and Gavin Dutton of Monmouth, OR; four sisters, Nadine Pinkston of LaPlata, MO, Faye Newman of Columbia, MO, Neva Buckallew and husband Lyle of Kingman, AZ and Katheryn Gregory and husband Donald of Kirksville, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Kenneth M. Scott; one half-sister, Letha Miller and one half-brother, La Hoyt Scott.
Frances spent her life in Millard, Gibbs and Kirksville. She graduated from the Brashear High School in 1953. She began working at J.C. Penney’s in November of 1965 and worked there for 29 ½ years until she retired in May of 1995 to take care of her mother.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the El Kadir Jewels. She enjoyed spending winters in Mesa, AZ, visiting with friends, her flowers and gardening. She also enjoyed spending time with her great grandson.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday (July 16, 2017) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Pitney officiating. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens.
Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
