Franklin Donovan Wayman, age 91, peacefully passed away and returned to his heavenly home on March 31st , 2023.He had resided for the past several months in the La Plata Nursing home in La Plata, Missouri.
Frank was born October 3 rd , 1931 in Greentop, Missouri, to Virgie Maurine (Mikel) and Donovan Eldon Wayman. He was a lifelong resident of Kirksville. He graduated in 1953 from Northeast Missouri State Teachers’ College. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He reached the rank of Corporal. Upon his return from military service, he joined his mother in the family realty business. He was married to Mary Ann Funk for 35 years. Frank eventually took over the Wayman Realty office on Green Street in Kirksville and spent the rest of his life building and selling homes in the area. The homes that Frank built were very consistent and recognizable as they were efficient to build and solid homes. Of the several real estate ventures he was involved in, the most notable was Kings Ridge which he developed with his partner Vernon Searcy.
Frank was very involved in the community and was always glad to help others. He was passionate about boating at Thousand Hills State Park where you could find him on his pontoon with friends and family. He was a staple at parades shooting the canon or firing the anvils to start a golf tournament. He was a very active Shriner in the Masonic Lodge and was responsible for several of the initiatives there including running the fireworks stand.
Frank is survived by his brother, Jerry Eugene Wayman. His loving family includes nephews, Mike (Cathie) Wayman and Joe (Margie) Wayman and nieces, Julie Riggs (Kenneth) and Janell Giesenhagen (Paul). Frank had 10 great-nieces and nephews as well as 18 great-great-nieces and nephews. The family is grateful for the many fond memories of Frank’s fun personality and entertaining stories.
Visitation for family and friends will be at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 5th, at 10:00 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11:00. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens.
In Lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
