Gary R. Knotts Jr, 60 of Kirksville passed away Sunday (June 4, 2017) at Boone Hospital in Columbia, MO.
Gary was born March 2, 1957 in Chulavista, CA, to Gary R. Knotts Sr. and Alberta M. (Schultz) Knotts. On May 26, 2001 in Kirksville Gary was united in marriage to Nancy Porter who survives.
Gary is also survived by his parents, Gary and Alberta Knotts; one sister, Debra L. Malavolti; nieces, Jasmine and Jessica Malavolti; sister-in-law, Grace (Porter) Wray and husband David of Kirksville; brother-in-law, Chuck Porter and wife Dee (Roberts) of Kirksville; aunts, Marlene Jones of Springfield, MO, Margie Kittle and husband Steve Mitchell of Gibbs, MO and Geri Scherkenbach and husband Bob of San Diego, Ca; one uncle, Robert Schultz and wife Myra of San Felipe, Baja CA; 12 nieces and nephews, 15 great nieces and nephews; one great great nephew; as well as numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Michael Schultz, Marie Comer, Lewis Knotts and Wanetta Kittle; one aunt, Norma Kittle; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charlie and Dorothy Porter, and son, Cody Bellinger.
Gary attended school in Denver, Co, Wentzville, MO, Troy, MO and graduated from Brashear High School in 1975. Immediately following high school he reported for duty to the U.S. Army. He spent two years in Germany and Fort Leavenworth, KS. Following his discharge he attended Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville. He worked at Burroughs Corp. for five years, then moved on to the U.S. Post Office for 8 years where he served as a carrier, clerk and supervisor. He was self-employed with Green Hills Recycling for a number of years before becoming a conductor for the Norfolk and Southern Railroad for three years, then returning to self-employment with Green Hills recycling.
A graveside service with military rites will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday (June 10, 2017) at Highland Park Cemetery in Kirksville with Chuck Porter officiating.
Pallbearers will be David Wray, Chris Buck, Charles Porter, Christopher Porter, Cary Porter, and David Wray II.
Visitation with the family will be from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
