George Roberts, 79, of Powersville, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, September 23, 2022.
George Fredrick Roberts was born in Milan, Missouri, on August 6, 1943, the son of George McClellan and Elgeta Maxine (May) Roberts. He graduated from Milan High School in 1961 and then attended Drone’s College in Kansas City to study as an engineer. He worked delivery for Zales’s Jewelry to put himself through college. George married Irene Galbreath in Polo, Missouri, on September 21, 1963. He worked twenty years for Vendo Company, a manufacturer of vending machines and while there obtained a patent. George and Irene moved the family to Powersville in 1979 so George could work at Shivers in Corydon, Iowa. He worked there as an engineer for a few years before working for PCM (Carmaco) in Unionville. George retired in 2012 after working for over 20 years with the Veterans Hospital in Knoxville and Des Moines, Iowa. One of his tasks there was to design workstations for nurses.
George was a jack of all trades who could fix anything. He like to fix what his family called junk. He was an avid fly fisherman, and the family took many trips to Roaring River State Park. He was good at designing and tying his own flies. He loved to spend time with his family. George golfed in his younger years. He liked to hunt pheasant and was a member of the NRA. He was a devoted town board member in Powersville for over 20 years. George loved to help people and he loved to visit. He liked to work on Case tractors, and he loved ice cream!
George is survived by his wife of 59 years, Irene. He is also survived by two sons, Jerry (LaDonna) Roberts of Unionville, Missouri, and Gerrod (Tammy) Roberts of Corydon, Iowa. His seven grandchildren are Joey Roberts, Willow Roberts, Oaklee Roberts, Ashley Webber, Heath Roberts, Geordon Roberts, and Hunter Roberts. His surviving great grandchildren are Bentley Scott and Mia and Mikenna Roberts. George is also survived by two sisters, Juanita (Carl) Schnelle of Milan, Missouri, and Kathy (Omer) Buckman of Moberly, Missouri, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Geroge was preceded in death by his parents, George and Maxine Roberts and by twin daughters, Tammy Lynn and Teresea Kay Roberts, as well as a great granddaughter, Maddison Roberts.
