Georgie Bell Stottlemyre

May 16, 1947 — November 26, 2021

Georgie Stottlemyre, 74, of Unionville, Missouri, passed away suddenly at her home on Friday, November 26, 2021.

Georgie Bell Stottlemyre was born in Oneonta, New York, on May 16, 1947, the daughter of Fred and Mary (Digiorgio) Peto.  Her family moved to Higbee, Missouri, when she was one year old and then to Princeton, Missouri, where Georgie attended elementary school.  She attended high school in Mercer, Missouri, and then graduated from Unionville High School in 1965, after the family had moved to Powersville, Missouri.  Georgie married Richard Stottlemyre on May 18, 1965.  They made their home in eastern Putnam County, the last 43 years in the same house they had built. Georgie worked for nearly 33 years at Union Carbide in Centerville, Iowa, retiring in 2001, after 32 years and 9 months. She spent the last twenty years as a homemaker and grandmother.

Georgie’s faith was the most important aspect of her life.  She was active at the First Baptist Church in Unionville where she served in a variety of capacities related to the gift of hospitality such as funeral dinners and hosting the Bloodmobile. She loved people and cared for their physical and spiritual needs.  She was an active volunteer at the Bargain Barn.  She always said “you will find God’s will on the road to duty.”  Georgie had a servant’s heart for all people, including her family, which was the second most important part of her life.  She loved hosting family dinners.  She and Richard liked to travel in their motor home, especially to the western U.S.  They once spent six weeks in Alaska.  They often traveled in the company of dear friends Roy and Sharon Robbins.

Georgie is survived by her husband, Richard, and two sons, Rick (Shawntelle) Stottlemyre and Rod (friend Maggie Courtney), all of Unionville.  Her six grandchildren are Doyle Stottlemyre, Stacia (Jimmy) McGaughey, Adrianna (Dawson) Folsom, Alaina Stottlemyre, and Amy Stottlemyre.  She is also survived by a great grandchild, Deion Folsom; a step-grandson, Jake McGaughey; a step-great grandson, Jake Wyatt McGaughey; and a sister, Mary Ann (Orie) Roberts of Iowa City, Iowa.

Georgie was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Danny Peto, brothers-in-law John Orie and Darrell Roberts, and special aunt, Edna Stottlemyre.
