Gerald Robert Leonard, 76 of Kirksville passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at his home.

The son of Harold and Abbie (Appleyard) Leonard, he was born June 20, 1944 in Weymouth, Massachusetts. On June 28, 1969 in South Boston, Massachusetts he married Mary McGuire.

Gerald is survived by one son, John Leonard and wife Susie of Amhurst, NH; one daughter, Kathleen Hanley and husband John of Kirksville, MO; one brother, James Leonard of Brockton, MA; and five grandchildren, Emily, Ryan and Nathan Hanley of Kirksville, MO and Kasey and Danny Leonard of Amhurst, NH,.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one brother, Fredrick Leonard.

Gerald grew up in Weymouth, Massachusetts and attended Hunt School and graduated from Weymouth High School in 1962. He attended St. Andrews School in Barrington, Rhode Island and studied Agriculture. He served in the United State Marine Corp from 1965 to his discharge in 1969. He worked in the Quincy Ship Yards as a carpenter and also worked as a bartender at Kelly’s Landing. In 2004 he moved to Kirksville and worked for KTVO until he retired.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the V.F.W. He enjoyed Irish dances and spending time with his grandchildren.

Graveside service and interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2021 at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO; all are welcome to attend.
