Glenn Allen Dague

Glenn Dague, 88, of Unionville, MO, passed away October 24, 2017, at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville where he had been a patient for four days. Prior to that Glenn had lived at the Putnam County Care Center for nearly five years.

Glenn Allen Dague was born June 27, 1929, in Jackson County, IA, the son of Don and Eunice (Zickafoose) Dague, who preceded him in death. Glenn was reared in Jackson County and then joined the United States Marines, serving from 1951-1953, during the Korean Conflict. He married Joyce Hilsinger in Camanche, IA, on December 29, 1952 and she survives at home.

After his honorable discharge, Glenn worked for several farmers in Jackson and Clinton counties IA, until 1968, when he attended welding school. He and Joyce moved to St. Helens, OR, in 1972, where Glenn worked in a machine shop. Glenn was especially adept at making ornamental iron work, once making a spiral stair case that was shipped to Hawaii. He opened his own welding business in 1982 and operated that until his retirement in 2002. He and Joyce then moved to Unionville, MO, to be closer to family.

Glenn was an active member of the Elks club and the Moose club while living in Oregon; he served as officers in both clubs and often called bingo games. He and Joyce were also members of a travel club and liked to travel up and down the coast of Washington and Oregon. Glenn was a very outgoing person who never met a stranger. He liked to tease and he had a quick wit. His jovial manner will be sadly missed.

In addition to his wife, Glenn is survived by his daughter, Susan Shady and husband Clayton of Unionville, MO, and five grandchildren: William Shady, Melissa Remme, Jonathon (Jessica) Shady, David Shady and Robert Shady. Thirteen great grandchildren also survive (with one on the way) as well several nieces and nephews.

Glenn was also preceded in death by two brothers, Blaine and Willie Dague, a sister, Zelda Brokaw, and two nephews.

Memorial services for Glenn will be at the Broadlawn Baptist Church in Unionville at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 28, 2017. There will be no visitation. Interment will take place at a later date at the Jacksonville Veterans Cemetery. Glenn’s wishes were to be cremated.
