Henry Putnam, 87, of Unionville, MO, passed away at Ravenwood Terrace – The Arbors – in Moberly, MO, on Tuesday, July 9, 2019. He had been a resident there for about nine months.
Henry Edgar Putnam was born in Powersville, MO, on January 27, 1932, the son of Emerson and Ora (Ellis) Putnam, who preceded him in death. He was reared in the Powersville area and attended Powersville High School until it closed. He graduated from Unionville High School. Henry enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952 and served during the Korean and Vietnam wars, retiring in 1972. He served aboard several ships, including the Bonhomme Richard and the Coral Sea. He moved back to Missouri upon his honorable discharge and began work as a bus driver and mechanic for Putnam County Schools, a position he held for over 20 years. Henry married Norma Hagen in Centerville, IA, on April 18, 1981, and she survives at home.
Henry was a quiet man and a hard worker. He liked to stay busy with a variety of interests. He was a Master Gardener, raising vegetables and being quite an expert in grafting trees. Henry was also a good mechanic and carpenter. He was a Master beekeeper and loved to fish and hunt, especially bow hunting. Henry accepted Christ as his Savior in July of 2018.
In addition to his wife, Norma (Hagen) Putnam, Henry is survived by a brother, Edward Putnam of San Juan Capistrano, CA, and a sister, Lucille Davis of East Moline, IL, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Helen Hanson of Monona, IA, and Karen (Glen) Steffenson of Elizabeth, IL.
Henry was also preceded in death by two brothers, Tom Putnam and Kenneth Putnam, and two sisters, Mary Kellison and Emily Pauley.
Memorial services for Henry Putnam will take place at West Liberty Baptist Church in Putnam County, MO, at 11:30 am Friday, July 19, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will follow at the West Liberty Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the PC Café and Resource Center and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
