Robert "Skeeter" Myers

February 10, 1940 — May 25, 2017

Robert “Skeeter” Myers, 77, of Unionville, MO, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, May 25, 2017.

James Robert Myers, a direct decedent of Henry Clay Dean, was born in Centerville, IA, on February 10, 1940, the son of James Junior and Eugenia Francis (Dean) Myers, who preceded him in death.  He was reared near Rebel’s Cove in eastern Putnam County and graduated from Livonia High School.  He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts from Northeast Missouri State (now Truman University). Skeeter then began a 33 ½ year career with Union Carbide in Centerville, IA, working as a maintenance supervisor, which fit well with his ability to fix, build, and tinker with anything. Robert assisted in teaching industrial arts at Putnam County R-1 schools upon his retirement from Union Carbide.

Robert married Shirley Sheehan at the Church of Christ in Unionville, MO, on October 23, 1964, and she survives in Unionville.  Skeeter and Shirley built a home in Rebel’s Cove in 1974 and lived there until failing health caused them to move to Unionville.  While on the farm Robert loved to work in the hayfields.  He was also an avid pilot, having built his own plane and being the owner of two planes.  He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and a 50 year Mason.  Skeeter loved to take vacations with his extended family of nieces, nephews and friends.  He was a devoted uncle and would do anything to help his family and friends.  He had a gentle spirit and was friendly to all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his daughter, Lori Ann (Josh) Pearson and granddaughter, Kloey May Pearson.   His is also survived by two sisters, Janice Myers of Coatsville, MO, and Joretta (Ron) Sharr of Knoxville, IA.  His nephews are Matt Myers, Ronnie J. Sharr, and Donnie Sharr.  Robert is also survived by his extended family of brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Skeeter will be at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Cremation will follow at a later date.
