James H. Scearce

James H. Scearce, 85 of Kirksville passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Kirksville Manor Care.

The son of William Dudley and Alma Maxine (Miller) Scearce, he was born July 26, 1936 in Edina, Missouri. On June 16, 1973 in Kirksville he was united in marriage to Lavona Gordon.

James is survived by his wife, Lavona; three sons, J. Mark Scearce of Raleigh, NC, Michael J. Scearce of Jacksonville, IL, and Christopher P. Scearce and wife Tammy of Kirksville; two grandchildren, Connor J. Scearce and Paden C. Scearce;  one brother, Sam Scearce; one sister, Cindy Stephens and husband Bill of Jefferson City, MO; nieces and nephews, Bill Scearce, Joe Scearce, Steve Scearce, Jeff Scearce, Lynne Wilburn and Gary Scearce; great nieces and nephews, Courtney and Stephanie Scearce, Adam and Katie Scearce along with several others great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandparents, Ira and Myrtle Miller; and three brothers, Bill, Robert and Richard Scearce.

James grew up in Edina and graduated from the Edina Hugh School in 1954. He worked as a mechanic his entire life. He worked for Doc Haggard’s Sinclair Station, Cahalan’s Station in Edina, Updykes Motors and Lovegreen Ford Chrysler until he retired.

He enjoyed and loved automobile’s, the old west, civil war history, and antique firearms. He was a member of Hamilton Street Baptist Church.

James will be cremated and no service will be held.
