Genita Ann “Jan” Kirkpatrick, 80 of Kirksville passed away Tuesday (April 24, 2018) at Northeast Regional Medical Center.
The daughter of David Gurney and Lavella Frances (Heavlin) Cornelison, she was born July 18, 1937 in Kirksville, MO. On October 7, 1956 in Kirksville she was united in marriage to Donald “Ray” Kirkpatrick and he preceded her in death on January 18, 2018.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Gary Cornelison and three sisters, Sandra Sue Danner, Margaret Cornelison and Sharon Louise Blodgett.
Jan is survived by her children, David Kirkpatrick and wife Pamela of Kearney, MO, Donna Vincent and husband John of Kirksville and Sue Peacock and husband Charles Jr. of Kirksville; six grandchildren, Faith Spiker, Elijah Peacock, Hailey Sullins, Morgan Vincent, MacKenzie Vincent and John Vincent; eight great grandchildren; and her three cousins that were raised as her siblings, Eddie Roop, Judy Ballenger and Joyce Ledford all of Kirksville.
Jan attended the Kirksville Schools. After her marriage to Ray she was a Homemaker all her life. She was a member of the Hamilton Street Baptist Church and bowled in several bowling leagues. She enjoyed crafts, genealogy, cooking, traveling by train, mowing her yard and staying active.
She loved her family very much. Her and her siblings and parents all lived on the same road next to each other. Raising the 14 grandkids together. Family dinners on Sundays with the grandparents. She was an extraordinary person. She would do anything for anyone. She faced several health challenges in life. But was one of the strongest, most determined people that wanted to live and laugh. Our dad said she was a natural born comedian. She was. When our dad passed life wasn’t the same for her. Even though this is a tremendously sad time for us all. Knowing they are together is a blessing. She is fulfilled once again and has that sparkle back, we’re sure.
