Jaunita Joyce Hearn

March 15, 1943 — January 10, 2021

J. Joyce Hearn PhD, 77, of Kirksville passed away January 10, 2021 in Kirksville, MO. Joyce attended Whitehaven High School, UT Martin, U of Tennessee, Knoxville, and Florida State University where she earned a Doctorate of Philosophy of Family and Child Science. Joyce was an Associate Professor in Department of Family Science at Truman State University until her retirement in 1997.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Roscoe Hearn and Freddie Snipes Hearn, brother Gerald Lloyd Hearn.

She is survived by her cousin Lloyd Hearn (Nancy) Memphis, TN and their daughters Barbara Hearn Keeler (Rob) sons Joseph Henry Keeler and Wallace Lloyd Keeler and Susan Hearn Morgan (Patrick) daughters Katherine Grace Morgan and Evelyn Walker Morgan.

Joyce also leaves friends Linda Boland and Donna Peissner of Kirksville, MO; and longtime Memphis friends Brenda Ledbetter, Linda Pludra and Nancy Jo Henley.

In addition to her many years of service at Truman State University, Dr. Hearn was involved in several organizations in the Kirksville community.

They include the Adair County Humane Society, Quota and Quota International, and the Sojourners Club, to name a few.

She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, but also participated in ecumenical activities.

Joyce hosted a Intercessory Prayer Groups in her lovely home for years, and enjoyed spoiling us with her hospitality.

One of her passions was her love of animals. She had a fur family in the past, Winston, Jackie Dog, and Hallie Cat.

Joyce’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 27 th , 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Church with burial following at the Mary Immaculate Catholic Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.

Memorials can be made out to the Trinity Episcopal Church, the Catholic Newman Center, or the Adair County Humane Society in care of the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.

Joyce was well respected by her colleagues at the University, and was loved by her family and friends. She will be missed.

Joyce had a mantra in her later years, that she wanted shared. It was, “It’s all about Jesus”. and so it is ….Amen.
